The La Pointe Volunteer Fire Dept. was formally organized by ordinance in 1966.
The Fire Department has an ISO rating of Class 8 with Rural Water Supply; this is the highest rating available in a service area without fire hydrants
The Department's initial water response is in excess of 10,000 gallons, and the Department has a mutual aid agreement in place with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for wild land fire.
Members are required to meet State of Wisconsin Entry Level Firefighter Certification within two years of joining the department. Currently over 80% of the members are trained to level Certified Fire Fighter I.
The Island has 911 service, and emergency personnel are dispatched locally via pagers,hand-held radios & a community siren.
