Town of La Pointe, the Madeline Island Ferry Line, and the Bayfield School District are dedicated to collaboration and cooperation in the establishment of a safe, cost-effective and mutually beneficial winter transportation system between Madeline Island and the City of Bayfield.

The goal is a system that safely transports citizens and students and reflects fiscal responsibility, shared decision-making and mutual accountability.

The Town of La Pointe has a long-standing winter transportation system that includes windsleds, and a carefully plotted and well-managed and maintained ice road.

The Winter Transportation Committee has 5 members that serve 3 year terms: (1) Town Board Supervisor representative,(1) Citizen-At-Large member, One Representative of the Madeline Island Ferry Line, Two Representatives of the School District of Bayfield, and a Representative of Windsleds, Inc as an ex-officio member.

The Committee shall have the authority to gather information, negotiate and make recommendations to the Town Board regarding the windsled equipment, terminal building and other necessary equipment. The Committee shall gather information, negotiate and make recommendations related to a lease between the operating company and the Town of La Pointe. The above mentioned responsibilities are not intended to be a complete or exhaustive list of all subjects upon which the Committee may negotiate, gather information or make recommendations to the Town Board. The final and exclusive decision making authority related to purchase of equipment, building or other matters including entering into, renewing or amending contracts, shall be the sole responsibility of the Town of La Pointe.
